8th Annual MLK Sunday Supper

Inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision that people of diverse backgrounds would come together to discuss injustices of the day and create a plan for action, Sunday Suppers call people to engage in dialogue about issues affecting their communities.

MLK Sunday Supper 2020The event will be held at Lincoln Charter School in York at 559 W. King St. from 4-8 PM on Sunday January 19, 2020. The event features a free dinner of chicken, fish or a vegan option along with a salad, drink, roll and dessert. Dinner is free but registration is required at Eventbrite so click here to register.

The event will benefit Mr. Sandy’s Homeless Veterans Center in York. The shelter was opened in 2016 by York City Councilwoman Sandie Walker in honor of her father, a Vietnam veteran, who had recently passed away. Sandy Walker was well known in York for helping homeless veterans and ran the Veterans Thrift Store on Pershing Ave. The Mr. Sandy shelter provides homeless veterans who have no other place to go with temporary overnight accommodations, while also putting them in touch with local organizations to find a more permanent solution to their housing problems.

Even if you are not able to attend you can help out as well. Nicely Done Sites and Freelance York are collecting hygiene supplies for Mr. Sandy’s. Anything can help so even if you are unable to attend the supper please take some time to donate in the spirit of Dr. King. Donations can be dropped off at our location at 2782 S. Queen St. in York and we will deliver them to Mr. Sandy’s on Sunday before the supper. Your donation can make a world of difference for a homeless veteran in the York community.
